The Order of Drawing
a Floor Plan
From bare shell to finished furniture layout—every layer, drawn in the right sequence
A floor plan is not drawn in one pass. It is built up in layers, each one depending on the accuracy of the
one before it. Drawing in the wrong order means constantly going back to fix things – moving walls
because furniture will not fit, re-cutting door openings because the swing is wrong, redrawing dimensions
because the geometry changed.
This guide gives you the correct sequence. Follow it every time and your plans will be cleaner, faster and
more accurate. The order is not arbitrary — each step is listed before the next because it is the
constraint that the next step depends on.
